Corinne and I went to dinner at Gary and Ellyn's tonight. Mandi is graduating from High School this year and wants to attend Johnson and Wales in Providence. In fact, what she really wants is a scholarship, and to get it she has to inventa dish, prepare it, photograph it, and submit it. If they choose it as a finalist, she then has to prepare and present it for the selection panel.
So, we got to play guinea pigs! I'm used to it, Corinne is always trying new stuff on me, but her expertise with knife, spatula, and spice is the real reason we were invited: so she could critique Mandi's concoction. My brother Jed, who also attended J & W, was there (along with Mark, who was there for the same reason I was: guinea pig).
Mandi made seafood-stuffed crepes with brown rice and a pink alfredo sauce containing a bit of horse radish. Really.
So how good was it? Lick-the-plate-even-if-someone's-looking good. Seriously. Mandi has The Talent, just like Corinne, Jed, and my Mom.
What a wonderful family. ;-)
