I'm trying to avoid all news about the Tour de France during the day, so that it doesn't distract me from work. OLN replays the day's stage of the race at night, twice, so I can watch it as if it were live.
NPR knows I'm trying to do this, and they're out to get me.
Last week, as I left the house to pick up Corinne at work, I turned on the radio. The very first words I heard were about the Individual Time Trial. They were about to say what happened in the race that day... but I managed to shut off the radio first.
Hah! Nice try, losers.
Today I had to pick up a new air filter for my lawn mower. While driving around I was again listening to the news... just as the current broadcast was coming to an end -- with the music already playing (at least this is how I remember it) -- the broadcaster came back to his microphone. With his mouth obviously away from the microphone, he could be heard to say something like, "We'll get him this time, he'll never be expecting this." The very next words, loud and clear, "Today in the Tour de France, in a gruelling mountain top finish, Lance Armstrong..."
My sudden dive for the power button on the radio whild driving through a busy intersection nearly gave them some more news to talk about. At least I shut them down before twas too late.
Again: hah! Nice try, NPR. Next time shut off the microphone when you're plotting against me.
;-)
(Really, this is how it happened! Sort of. All except for the part about NPR-plotting-against-me.)
There are no trackbacks.
