This past week was incredibly intense, and it's sapped all my energy. Let's review!
In the "emotional background", there's been a big fight/argument simmering between a few people in my extended family, caused by people saying the wrong things to the wrong people. Stubbornness, pride, anger, loose lips, and an apparent lack of self-awareness has prevented this storm from blowing over.
On Sunday, my company released the first version of our Event Calendar in Conversant, which was a very hopeful and emotional time for us because we've been working on it for months.
On Monday, Wynona finally gave birth to three adorable kittens, but expelled her uterus ("prolapsed uterus") in the process, and it had to be removed surgically. She's recovering very nicely, and takes excellent care of her kittens, but it was very scary.
On Tuesday or Wednesday, we found out that $160 had been stolen from our bank account by someone we trusted implicitly, who had access to my wallet and therefore my ATM card. This was both shocking, depressing, and totally unexpected. Unlike most of the other events of the week, there is no "good side" to this bit of stupidity.
On Thursday, I went for a bike ride and was feeling great... but I broke a spoke after less than four miles, and had to return home. This is certainly the smallest of the week's events, but it still contributed because it added a headache (I was forced to use my $100 gift certificate on a new wheel instead of clipless pedals) and prevented me from dealing with my stress via my preferred method.
On Friday morning, I received the phone call I've been waiting for since May. A huge prospective customer, one of the largest companies in the world, finally decided to approve a large project proposal and has already opened a purchase order. They wanted an invoice, immediately (and they got it)! It's almost too good to be true, and I'm not sure if it has really sunk in yet, but they want us to get started ASAP. (This is a turning point for Macrobyte and Conversant, but I can't give more details of it yet.)
On Saturday, for various reasons, the problems in the extended family erupted once again, and a few people said some very angry words about each other. Many of the people in my family are extremely intelligent and energetic... but sometimes we're not very wise and say things that we know we're going to regret, even before we say them.
Also on Saturday, I tried to call my brother Jed at our friend Mark's house, and a strangely familiar voice answered the phone. It was my best friend from years earlier, Darren (Mark's brother)! That totally took me by surprise, as nobody knew he was coming up for a visit from Houston where he moved five or six years ago. Mark and Darren and his wife Angie came over to visit for a few minutes that afternoon, but unfortunately that's all the time we had together. Hopefully, we'll do a better job of keeping in touch from now on.
This week has drained as much from Corinne as it has from me, so we're both hoping that the next week will be boring. :-)
