For the last three years, I've ridden half centuries on Tuesday nights with a group from Mystic Cycle. These were hill rides, with the route designed for maximum climbing. Training rides, not competitive events, and the idea was (apparently) to hurt yourself as much much as possible, so that you'd be better prepared for hills in the actual events.

Ok, actually I don't ride that many events. I just did it for the comaraderie and because it was a good way to continue improving my condition.

I haven't done one of those rides yet this year, for exactly one reason: I've been completely intimidated by the very thought of Cossaduck Hill (what I used to call insanity hill).

Wow, that's a lot of build-up just to say that I finally did Cossaduck HIll Road and Wyassup Road today, huh? Those two roads make up the worst of the Tuesday night ride, and I had no real problem with it. In fact, since it's approximately the same length as the rides I've been doing this month, I'm thinking about alternating. More climbing will help the weight come off faster (though losing ten pounds in the last month is pretty good), and is probably one of the best ways to keep improving before the PMC.

Stats: 38.49 miles (61.96 km) in 2h 16' 28" for an average speed of 16.92 mph (27.24 kph).
