Right, I understand that. One should also avoid caloric spikes if possible, even during exercise, because as soon as the blood glucose reaches the right level, the pancreas starts secreting insulin and the body starts storing the extra sugars as fat. (It may have to convert it back again a little while later, but it has no way to know that you're going to continue exerting yourself.)
My question, though, is specifically about the process of burning fatty acids and glycerol (delivered to the bloodstream by the adipose tissues in response to the pancreas's secretion of glucagon when blood sugar is low). I want to know if there is a way -- ANY WAY -- that I can get more out of my stored fat during the same level of heavy exercise, or if I can use the same amount of fat-stored fuel more efficiently.
The goal here is to reduce my dependency on supplementation while/when I would seem to have ample fuel reserves all over my body. Even a very tiny improvement, just a couple percentage points, would be welcome.
Is my goal clear, or am I not making sense? If it helps, I'll be very specific: I'm looking for a way to improve the efficiency of my fatty acid metabolism.
That page desribes how fatty acids are metabolized, but at least half of what he's written there is still over my head. I do see that water is used a lot in the metabolic process... does that mean that keeping myself fully hydrated is an important part of this metabolic process? That's such a weak guess I'm embarrassed to have written it at all.
