They're still doing the construction work in Ledyard that I mentioned yesterday, so today I avoided that part of the route entirely. Unfortunately, as I rode up Pumpkin Hill Road, I couldn't pass that way either! This wasn't construction, though. Apparently there was a major accident of some type. A volunteer was stopping traffic to tell people they'd have to turn around and go back, and I heard him say to someone, "Yeah, she's in pretty bad shape."
I'm not sure who the she was, but I could see a schoolbus off the road up ahead, and kids were disembarking and gathering in a yard at the side of the road. So, it looks like the bus was involved in whatever happened.
I probably could have ridden right up to the accident (he was only a volunteer, after all), but there were already plenty of volunteers helping out and I wasn't going to ride up there just to satisfy my own curiosity. Instead, I turned around and went back to 184. On my way past Pumpkin Hill again (near the end of the ride), the police had pulled a cruiser across the road and were stopping all traffic except for the residents.
When I returned home a couple hours later, Corinne told me that the power had been out for about an hour. I'm sure it was related, as Pumpkin HIll is just a couple miles away. I have no idea, yet, what the accident was.
Stats: 38.24 miles (61.56 km) in 1h 52' 34" for an average speed of 20.38 mph (32.81 kph).
There are no trackbacks.
