This afternoon, after Corinne was done buying groceries, I met her at Linder Dodge to drop off my Mom's car for some service. Then we drove together over to a Greek Food Festival in New London.
I LOVE Greek food! Always have. If it has red meat, it's probably lamb (yum!). Onions galore. Tangy white sauces that are better eaten than pronounced ("tzatzaki"). Did I mention the onions? Onions are to the Greeks what garlic is to the Italian.
How do you say "gyro?" That depends on how much of an amused "glance" you want to get from the folks working the festival. I've heard it pronounced 'jIro' like the first part of gyroscope, hero, gee-roh (with a hard g), and probably a few others. I pronounce it, "Mmmmmm!"
Then there are the Greek desserts. Nothing else like them. Can you imagine anything heavier, sweeter, and more calorific than baklava?
It's a darn good thing I rode for 36+ miles today. Seriously.
