You need to improve the efficiency at which your body uses fat. (increase your consumption)
I presume from your thread that you are an experienced long distance rider. Therefore, the only thing you can do is train your body to use (burn) fat by riding longer at a Slow pace. The most important thing to keep in mind is to make sure you are working at a low intensity. Absolutely no higher than 70% of your HRM. Preferrably, an intensity that is between 60-65% of your HRM. If you are very strict at this you will see that you will become very efficient at using your fat and you will be able get away with far less supplementation.
At first you will be, riding (performing at a snails pace). Persist and you will see that your speed willl increase and you will also be able to sustain the pace for alot longer. you have to do the long slow time in your training and you will see the results in the races or events.
First you must have knowledge of your true MHR. You can find this quite effectively with a heart rate monitor and using it while riding up a steep hill that is about 1:00 min long. You will ride this hill three times in a row, with last time being your complete all. Have someone at the top of the hill cheering you on!
You may
Happy training!!!
