Dotster is ridiculous. The day after my little diatribe about their weekly consolidated newsletter (yeah, "consolidated"), they announced that they had given all of their customers free .info domains. In fact, every one of my .net and .com domains are now cloned as .info domains. Free. For a year.
Do they think that I think this is something good? .info domains are found only (well, mostly) in spammerland. Anti-spam software like SpamAssassin actually have rules that raise a message's spam score just for mentioning a .info domain! What the heck are they thinking?
I know, I know, they're thinking that not everybody knows about the tainted .info domains. By giving them away for a year, they're hoping a significant percentage of these domains will be renewed next year. Free money.
