Last week, Greg asked me what text editor I use on the command line. He was sick of using pico.
I didn't want to tell him. I was embarrassed to admit that I was still using pico, too. Brian had tried, a couple of times, to move me away from it and into something more powerful like Vi (atually, Vim), but it never took hold.
Admitting all of the above was just too much for me, so I immediately found a nice little vi guide and started playing. (Later, Brian told me that the guide I used was written by one of his former profs. Nifty.)
I haven't used pico since. Why would i go back? Vim has search and replace with regular expressions, syntax coloring for every file format and programming language I tried to throw at it (even config files), and more goodies than I'll ever, ever need.
With all the controversial stuff I tend to write about, it's nice to finally be able to say something that nobody would ever get upset about. Know what I mean? vi is obviously the best text editor there is, hands down.
