After last week's Thursday night hill ride, when we were standing around in the parking lot at Mystic Cycle, Augie brought up the speeds we all go down hills.
(Being a big rider means that I have lower ratio of surface area to mass, so the wind doesn't slow me down like it does the little people.) I said that my top speed was 54 mph at the beginning of the PMC last year.
They nodded, but I don't think they believed me. One of them, of course, had to top it by saying that he'd gone over 60 on a tandem with Rick. That's actually plausible, for the same reason: you essentially have one person's surface area hitting the wind, but the mass of two people pushing you through it.)
Completely by coincidence, I just found proof of my high speed descent. See the fourth picture in this photo gallery.
