My Dad sent me an email today that had been forwarded quite a few times. At the bottom of the message, it asked that the reader forward it to lots of people to "get the message out".
Alarms went off in my head, immediately. That's an almost-sure sign of a fake... yet another email chain letter.
On the other hand, the text of the messag was very well written, whereas most of the chain letters are written by little punks looking for attention, with too much time on their hands, and who can't spell.
I did a search at Google and found that lots of people have posted the message to their site. One of the links was to Tom Coburn's page in the House Judiciary Committee. No dice, the page wasn't there anymore, and I'm not going to trust this sort of thing just because lots of people linked to it.
I decided to give it one more chance, so I poked around on the Judiciary Committee's site. Believe it or not, I found it!
I don't agree with everything he's said, but his words are well considered and quite moving. The speaker is the father of two of the kids that died in the Columbine, CO school shooting.
Mr. Scott's testimony is actually provided as PDF file (as are all of their testimony documents). The link was on their page for the Subcommittee on Crime.
Anybody, even politicians, can understand this man's words. They're worth a look.
There are no trackbacks.
