“Rides #87 and #88: Personal Best, and Nearly So”

Wednesday afternoon I went out at 5:30 for a quick twenty miles. That was all I could do and still be back in time for a quick shower and dinner before going to Bible class with Jed.

There's a particular route I always use for twenty mile rides. It's an out-and-back instead of a loop. I've done it four or five times this year... it's a fast route, with only two climbs (same hill, once each way).

This time, I did it faster than ever before. In fact, this was my fastest ride ever! It was like a twenty mile time trial.

Stats: 20.18 miles (32.48 km) in 57' 26" for an average speed of 21.08 mph (33.94 kph)!

Didn't go out Thursday. Friday I did my full "training route", and this was almost another personal best. Looking at all of my rides over 40 miles from the last two years only two were faster. Most recently there was the last day of the PMC, which included a whole lot of drafting and water stops (it was also 33 miles longer). The only other was from October 25, 2004: eight miles shorter, but .05 mph faster.

I'm such a stats junkie.

Stats: 48.27 miles (77.71 km) in 2h 22' 40" for an average speed of 20.30 mph (32.68 kph).
