My birthday is tomorrow (Friday). It's become a tradition for me to do a solo-century on that day, and this year will be no different except I'm putting it off to Saturday. Logistics! My parents want to take us to lunch. They were willing to go today (the day before) so that I could ride on Friday, but Jed (who's living with us now) said he would like to go also. He gets out of work a half-day early on Friday, so could go then, but he can't go on Thursday.

Got all that? Good. It's totally beside the point, so you can forget it now.

With the Birthday Century coming up on Saturday, I've been taking it fairly easy this week (in spite of the perfect weather). No ride yesterday, and today I did only 25 miles. However, that included a stop at Mystic Cycle: my wheel was finally in! It's been four weeks since I broke my hub going up Cossaduck HIll!

As I've mentioned before, once they had the new hub they found that the rim was cracked at all every spoke hole. They couldn't order a new wheel in the same color, so they had to send the hub to another wheel maker to build.

Today they decided that the hub *and* the rim were under warranty, so they only charged me for the labor. Rob wasn't very excited about the prospect of dealing with Mavic for the warranty replacement on the rim, but their documentation says two years and I bought the bike in April '04, so it's covered. He just needs to make they understand that.

I hit 4,000 miles for the year today! That's 265 miles more than all of last year, in five fewer rides. With at least two solid months of riding left in the year -- including two centuries just this month -- I have no idea where my mileage and ride count are going to end up.

Stats: 25.71 miles (41.39 km) in 1h 14' 59" for an average speed of 20.57 mph (33.12 kph).
