About thirteen miles into my ride, today, I was at the top of a small hill on Route 184. There was a car coming from the other direction, but 184 is a wide road with wide shoulders, and I was in the breakdown lane...

S L A M ! ! !

Something hit my left arm and hip. Really hard. It was a truck, coming from behind me.

A commercial pickup truck, one of the big "dualies" with the boxed, extra heavy bed. His passenger side mirror hit my left arm... I have no idea what hit my hip. His mirror snapped back and hit the passenger side window, making a lot of noise in the process.

He slowed down. I tried to wave him back... he kept moving. I waved again. His brake lights blinked. I tried to catch him... he stayed a couple hundred feet ahead of me. I couldn't make out his plates, and I was starting to get angry. Finally, he drove off.

As I said... I was at the *top* of a hill. I picked it up to about 40 going down the hill. He was already out of sight, but halfway down the hill I made a left onto North Stonington Road, and found him just around the corner. Two vehicles (the truck that hit me, and an SUV) were parked on the side of the road, with four people all looking at the broken mirror.

They saw me coming, and freaked out. They all ran to get back in their trucks, but were too slow. The driver of the truck just stopped, looked at me, and gave me a huge smile. Like maybe if he looked friendly, I wouldn't flatten (or sue) him for a hit-and-run.

I just said, "nice, guys," and kept going. Part of me wanted to teach them a lesson, but that's the part that's usually best ignored. It's sort of my 'anti-conscience.'

Anyway, I'm alive and well. Not even a bruise where the truck hit me, though it certainly stung at the time.

I have stats for this ride, but I just don't feel like recording them rigth now. (I'll try to remember to come back and update this space later.)

Some of you already know, but may have forgotten, that this isn't the first time I've been hit. A year
