I'm a cyclist. I love to ride my bike. I have a nice Cannondale that cost almost $1000, which I bought last year. Why a Cannondale? It's the only one I could find that fits my 6 foot 9 1/2 inch frame without spending almost $5000 on a custom frame. Thankfully, it's also the best bike I've ever owned (well, the current one is about the same as the one it replaced, which was destroyed).
Two years ago I'd built up my endurance to the point that I was riding about 35 miles per day, two to four days per week. That all came to an abrupt halt on September 8, 1998, when I was hit by a car. The accident left me with a crushed bike, a (left) collarbone which was completely snapped in two places, and a crack that ran the full length of my (left) shoulderblade all the way up into the rotator cuff of my left shoulder.
Ouch.
Last year, the year after the accident, I only rode about 240 miles total. There were a number of reasons, but I honestly don't think any sort of "accident-phobia" was one of them... after all, I did ride 240 miles.
As a result of my limited riding time, my desk job, and lack of other forms of exercise, I've put on a lot of weight and lost most of my endurance.
This year, I'm getting back into shape. I'm even keeping an online diary of which days I ride and how far.
There are no trackbacks.
