Wow, Nicole, that was amazing.
We miss him too. We've found ways to remember him, and new ways to smile, but we'll never find ways to stop thinking about him or missing him. Nor would we stop if we could.
Nothing will ever make up for losing him, or even come close to it, but we have found that combining our loss with our faith helps us to do some good things that we probably wouldn't have done otherwise. We have a baby girl here now (who, coincidentally, looks a lot like Shane did at that age), and her parents are Shane's age... chances are we wouldn't have "gotten involved" if not for losing and missing Shane so badly, in spite of our faith.
Tell your dad we think of him often, too. We know how hard this has been for him.
Thank you for writing. That was beautiful and unexpected.
Seth
