Hah, yeah right. If I didn't have my CamelBak, I wouldn't even consider a ride like that in hot weather.
I bought the $9 CamelCleaner (ok, I made that name up, it's just the official camelbak cleaning kit), and it worked perfectly. No more grody mildew.
Keep in mind, though, that in "normal" summer weather I go through 94 ounces of fluids on a three hour ride. The CamelBak only holds 70, and my bottle holds 24... but on a day like yesterday when all of my ice was melted within 45 minutes, I'd have been pretty thirsty by the time I got home.
That was the main thing that killed the ride. If I could have brought enough fluids with me, I might have done it anyway. I'm scared of dehydration.
