Along with the new cycling season comes a new season of fundraising for the PMC.
For those who don't know what I'm talking about: the PMC is a huge effort to raise millions of dollars for cancer research and treatement at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Four thousand cyclists ride 192 miles across Massachusetts in two days. Last year we raised $20,000,000. My efforts contributed about $4,000 of that.
My goal this year is $6,000. So far, I've raised exactly $0.
Quite a few people have sponsored me both of my previous years, and have already told me they'll be doing so again. It's just as easy this year as it was last year: you can go straight to my e-Gifts page at the PMC to make a donation, or you can skim the page that describes how to sponsor me in the Pan-Mass Challenge.
Last year I mentioned that the revenue from the google ads displayed here on the site would go towards the fundraising. That will start on April 1, and last through the end of August. I'll be lucky to raise more than $200 that way. Please be fair to the advertisers... don't click ads that don't interest you. This will all be wasted if just one person over-does it and Google decides my site is generating "inappropriate clicks."
Another "something new" I'm trying this year is the Amazon Associates
program. This is another way you can help that won't cost you a dime: if
you were going to buy something from Amazon anyway, please consider doing
it through a link from this site. All proceeds from the program will be
donated to the PMC, starting now and lasting through September 30th.

As I promised last week, all ad revenue generated by this site, between April 1 and August 31, will be donated to the Pan-Mass Challenge.
So, it starts today. Sorry about the date. I know it's April Fool's day, but this is not a joke.
If you are 'just tuning in', the PMC is the big ride fundraiser that raises millions of dollars every year to help with advanced, experimental, cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber in Boston.
If you visit the site, please try to be more aware of the ads.
Ads are everywhere in our lives, and we've all learned to tune them out. I know that, and so I recognize that this is a bit of a losing battle. Still, it can't hurt, right? Since I started running ads, I've averaged about $35 per month. So five months of ad revenue should add about $175 to the money I raise this year. Perhaps more, if people are a little more conscious of them.
This is definitely not a request for bogus clicks. Cheating will just result in my account being terminated. I'm just asking that you try to be more aware of the ads (and the links to amazon). If you only read via the RSS feed or the mailing list, why not stop in for a visit once in a while?

As all of the 'regulars' around here know, I'm raising money for cancer research and treatment as part of the Pan-Mass Challenge this Summer. My goal is $6,000.
Besides the traditional, boring begging for cash donations, I'm donating all proceeds from my the google ads (on the right of almost every page), and all sales through Amazon (same place).
| Direct Donations (2) | $510.00 |
|---|---|
| Google Ads, April (100) | $17.38 |
| Amazon Associate Sales, March | $0.82 |
| Amazon Associate Sales, April | $38.14 |
| Total Funds Raised | $566.34 |
| Goal (August 5, 2005) | $6,000.00 |
| Still Needed: | $5433.66 |
April's revenue from Google Adsense is the worst month since I signed up
for the program last year, but a few sales of Mac OS X Tiger
(especially the Family Pack)
helped make up the difference.
