Mark Morgan and Brian Carnell (both use Conversant to publish their own sites) have both participated in the discussion of internal versus external (internal or external to a given company) development of Content Management Systems.
Take a look at the full thread of this discussion, and please post your own thoughts! Dissenting opinions are just as welcome as those in agreement with what's already been said: we'll never get the bottom of this if both sides aren't represented.
Jon Udell is the author of Practical Internet Groupware, the book that guided much of Macrobyte's thinking as we worked on Conversant (the software that manages this and hundreds of other sites). Jon also writes a column for Byte.com called Tangled in the Threads.
Jon posted his thoughts in the ongoing discussion of internal vs. external development of your company's Content Management System (also known as the "buy or build question").
