We're Home from Baltimore

Corinne and I decided to head home immediately after the cat show ended yesterday, rather than wait until Monday afternoon. The weather was lousy so we weren't going to enjoy walking around the harbor, and the Best Western was too expensive for the lack of service they were providing. We arrived home last night at 11:30, and I didn't wake up until 11:30 this morning!

The kitten, Ysabel, didn't do as well as we'd hoped she would. She's still very young, and it can be hard to notice a cute five month old Birman kitten when she's competing with eight month Maine Coons (which are already half again as large as any adult Birman). It wasn't just the "Coonies"... she just needs to grow up a little more. Three ribbons isn't a bad showing, it's just not as good as we (especially Corinne) were hoping for.

Wixie, on the other hand, did as well as ever. Nine ribbons ("finals") out of a possible twelve, and one of them was a first place. Overall she placed third out of a field of thirty household pets. It's possible that she's hit the most elite "Supreme Champion" status, which is the higest ranking she can achieve. We'll know for sure after Corinne has done some research. If it's true, then she got there in just six or seven shows, which is about as fast as it can be done. (She really knows how to suck up to those judges.)

It was a good trip. For me, it was relaxing because I thought about work and finances very little, but exhausting because I had to do all the driving (seven hours each way) and I stayed up until 3:30 AM Saturday night (Sunday morning) re-reading The Hobbit.
