WindowTypes and NodeTypes

Yesterday I wrote:

For the last two days I've been looking at some of Frontier's (and Radio's) newest features. Things that I didn't have time for until now, like WindowTypes and NodeTypes.

Someone (one of those people who doesn't say anything publicly without a whole lot of thought, preparation, and sweat... you know who you are) wrote to me to ask what I think of the features: "useful, fun, or overrated?"

My answer: useful and fun.

I haven't dug into it far enough yet, but I was able to get a couple of quick little features working.

What I like is that most of the windows in Frontier are outlines, so everything except wptext's and menubars can make use of nodeTypes. I haven't tried it with tables yet, but Brent told me it works.

I couldn't possible have answered "overrated", since this has got to be one of the least talked about, least documented features in all of Frontier.

Seth v. The Hardware: So Far, We're Tied

On December 8th I mentioned that the hardware is the enemy, referring to the fact that I've had a very difficult time with PC hardware over the years (and bicycle hardware, now that I think about it).

The server I was fighting with that day just lost another battle in this particular war: it's been successfully upgraded from a 750 Mhz athlon to a 1.4 Ghz Athlon.

Kicked it's virtual butt, I did.

Actually, the problem was a defective motherboard. What bothers me is that we had to pay to ship it back to Thompson Computer Warehouse (the vendor) for the replacement. I guess it's their policy to make customers pay extra when they ship defective merchandise.

Why should it cost me anything? Ooh, that bugs me.

On the other hand, their tech support team -- all of whom have names beginning with the letter 'J', something they found pretty amusing -- were absolutely top notch. It was like they build the motherboard themselves, and were watching me with a hidden camera while I worked on it.

Clark's URL

Yesterday I linked to Clark's Conversant site. He's still learning Conversant, but he really understands Radio Userland alread.

He asked me if I'd link to his Radio site, at least until he's more comfortable with Conversant. That's fair.

Keep plugging away with Conversant, Clark! It won't be long before you'll be surprising yourself with what you're able to do. Just ask anybody whose been there before.

Oh, and thank you for the comments on my work ethic.
