I forgot to mention that Tuesday afternoon, Macrobyte released the
first public version of Transport
Layer Security for Frontier and Radio. Currently, the download
provides for secure servers, access to secure websites via scripts (in
almost exactly the same way as tcp.httpClient()), and key
management utilities.
We're going to use this to offer secure Conversant sites as part of our hosting services. Eventually. Maybe I should just say that this is "somewhere on our list". ;-)
Brian Andresen has done most of the work on this, including all of the hard parts. The software's not done yet, but it is usable and I'm extremely grateful to him for the time he's put into it, and the great results.
We've posted a page of developer's notes for the secure server software. This should make it clear to everybody just how simple it is to run it, and hopefully explain the only code modification that may be needed in a developer's web application.
I don't think it could be much simpler than checking a single boolean.
I really dislike posting pure-business notes here, but Macrobyte's new site isn't ready yet. For now my "loyal readers" (ahem) are just going to have to put up with it.
