What I Said

A week ago (or two), Corinne asked my Mom to scan some photos of the cats for her (we don't have a scanner). Mom asked me what size I want them, and I said "1200 x 1600". She said that's really big and takes a long time.

What I said: "That's just how scanners are."

What she heard: "You don't have anything better to do anyway, so just sit there and scan them."

Now I find out that she also thought I was asking for her to scan them at 1200 dpi or 1600 dpi. I understand the confusion, but these pictures are for the web, not. a high-resolution billboard! :-)

Software Marketing for the Little Guys

Scott Johnson sent a link to his essay on "Marketing Software When You Are a Small Company," today, when he read about my quandries regarding Macrobyte's future and Conversant's impending release.

I admit that I approached his site with a healthy of dose of skepticism... he's not the first marketing-type to write to me directly with "advice" for how to release Conversant and make lots of money. Most of them just wanted to sell me their services.

But... wow. Scott's essay is clear, concise, and full of a lot of good advice. Good advice that your marketing challenged author appreciates and is definitely planning to put into practice. It was both interesting and informative.

Go read it. Go on now, git.
