Mozilla Linkbar on TW

I was reading Archipelago (Daniel Berlinger's site) and noticed that he's added an "alternate" link to his page which triggers Mozilla's "Site navigation bar."

I've been meaning to do something like that for awhile, so now I've played copycat and put one on my home page (only on the weblog page, though).

It's too bad IE doesn't make use of these links. If it did, we could do away with these stupid orange XML XML and XML Coffee Cup coffee cup buttons that are showing up everywhere.

Update on the XML Link / Mozilla Navbar

After reading a message on Duncan's Jotter, I've realized there's a lot more to this story than I realized. It turns out that these xml links are all the rage, and I just jumped onto a bandwagon that I didn't even know existed.

I obviously didn't do enough web surfing today. Even dw knew about it, and has added a macro to Radio for adding the XML link to a weblog.

Pity I've had too much to do. :-(

I hope people eventually realize there's a lot more to the link element than pointers to RSS feeds, but this is a good way to get that started.

Power Outage

Talking to Brian Andresen via IM this evening, I said something like, "Boom! Major thunderstorm, I'm shutting down."

Just as I pressed enter to send the message, the power went out. I just sat there staring at my laptop's screen, a little freaked out.

The UPS's kept everything running long enough for the systems to shut down cleanly (although they certainly make a lot of noise in the process!), but unfortunately the T1 went down too. The power's back, but Sprint says that the T1's going to take a little longer. "It's a regional outage, we'll contact you as soon as service has been restored.

I believe them. In two and a half years of service they've provided better service than I ever expected or even imagined could come from a company that big.

Anyway, with all the power out and the line down, Corinne and I sat out on the front porch and watched... um, the darkness. Then we got really bored and went out for some chinese food. Now the line still isn't back up, but at least *I* can get to the server to post this message! ;-)
