We had potential kitten buyers here from about 2:45 to 3:45 this afternoon, and by the time they left I was dying to get out on my bike. So, of course, I did.
I made an interesting discovery on this ride. When it's really hot and humid (like it's been for the last few days), and we get a quick rain storm (5 minutes or less), the trees hanging over the road cast "rain shadows." The road under the trees stays mostly dry, but the road that's open to the sky is soaked. A few minutes after it stops raining, the effect is completely reversed, almost like a negative image (and that's what I thought was cool). The wet road dries up, but the tree leaves eventually drip most of their water down onto the road where it was previously dry.
Who cares, right? Me. This is the kind of stuff that I think about.
Anyway, this ride was my best of the season. It rained on me for about twenty minutes, but that obviously didn't have much effect: I finished just shy of three minutes faster than my previous best.
Stats: 33.34 miles (53.67 km) in 103' 10" for an average speed of 19.38 mph (31.21 kph).
