Today I was working on a Conversant feature as part of a project for officesite, inc. Specifically, I was putting the finishing touches on an upgrade to one of the standard plugins.
At the same time, I'm trying to help someone else upgrade from a really old pre-release version of Conversant to the current code base. I needed to see if a certain change -- one that he needed -- was available via automatic root updates (it should have been), so I updated the plugin. The one I was working on.
To my horror, all of the work I did in the last three days was instantly replaced with the changes I checked in last week (which were the precursor to the work I've done since then). Nuts!
I stared at my screen in shocked disbelief. A few minutes later, after I'd vented to Brian Andresen for a few minutes, he asked, "Do you have autobackups turned on?"
Oooh! I'm so glad he remembered that. In all these years I've never had to use the backups, but I've left that pref turned on "just in case." Phew! Thanks Brian (and UserLand for doing aotubackups in the first place). Now the only time I've lost is the telling of this story, instead of three full days.
This ride was shortened slightly from my normal 33 to just under 29 miles. The idea was to conserve some energy for tomorrow night (Tuesday), when I'll be riding the half century with Mystic Cycle for the first time this year. I'm ready.
I really do feel that I didn't push myself as hard as I could have, but I ended up with a new seasonal high speed anyway. Go figure. This will be the last new high for a few days. Experience tells me that my performance will dip for a couple days due to the gruelling 50 mile hill ride with those nuts from Mystic Cycle.
Stats: 28.84 miles (46.43 km) in 88' 34" for an average speed of 19.53 mph (31.45 kph).
