Ride #7: Beautiful is Relative, of course

'twas a beautiful day today, but of course beauty is relative. In six months, 50° weather will seem a ridiculously cold and unfriendly portend of the coming winter. Today, though, it was exactly the opposite, and was in fact the warmest day we've had since mid-February.

I'm counting today as the first official day of the (cycling) season, simply because it's my first day on the bike this Spring. It's actually my seventh ride of the year. I've been tracking my stats, of course, and if you're interested then you can see them all on my main page for Cycling in March, 2005.

Stats: 35.46 miles (57.09 km) in 2h 0' 43" for an average speed of 17.62 mph (28.37 kph).

Pointing to the Hacks Story?

By the way... if you're going to link to the story about my work on the book (not that I'm begging or anything) from your own site, would you point here instead of at the message or the weblog itself?

This is definitely not a big deal, but I'd appreciate it.

Season is Open

And speaking of "cycling around southern Connecticut," the weather today is bee-yoo-tee-ful and I'm outta here.

The cycling season is now officially open, and I'll start posting stats as of today's ride. (Would you believe someone actually asked me why I haven't posted any stats yet, yesterday!? That was funny, but it gave me a smile.)

My Contributor Bio for Firefox Hacks

Here's my "contributor bio," found at the front of Firefox Hacks.

Seth Dillingham is president and lead programmer of Macrobyte Resources (http://www.macrobyte.net). He and his company specialize in custom development of web applications, such as the popular Conversant (http://www.free-conversant.com) groupware and content management system. On those seemingly rare occasions that he steps out of his office, Seth can be found cycling around southern Connecticut or spending time with his lovely wife, Corinne.

I could have sworn I included something in there about the ecclesia, or Bible study. Oh well.

At the end of the contributor bios, Nigel says something I'd like to reiterate: a big thank you to Brian Sawyer at O'Reilly, the editor of the Hacks series. He's really, really good at his job, and is incredibly patient and easy to work with.

My Contributions to O'Reilly's Firefox Hacks

Firefox Hacks book coverDuring the final quarter of 2004, I spent about eighty hours writing five hacks for O'Reilly's new book, Firefox Hacks. (Nigel McFarlane wrote the bulk of it.)

This story, which is both a journal of my work on the hacks and a review of what I wrote, is a little too long for the home page. You can read the whole thing at Articles -> Mozilla -> Firefox Hacks.
